>>53043560-From a Pokeshipping mindset, Clauncher represents Misty's ongoing attempt to "catch" Ash. In universe, she gets to claim semi-ownership over Clauncher because she's been trying at him first, but on a meta level, it shows an "unwillingness to give up after a failed attempt" which is big for the Sato/Kasu crowd. The fact that her first meeting with Clauncher is described as "a moment where their eyes met and she felt a spark" but the footage shows Clauncher spraying her in the face and her getting cartoonishly BTFO is a great analogue to a tsundere's mindset.
-Ironically, she is acting AS a Sato/Kasu shipper (from our universe), saying that his attacks against her is "how he shows his love". In addition she mentions "We met again and again... Could this be chance? No, it must be fate!" This is no accident. Regardless of endgame, they are purposely shipbaiting here.
-OS Ash's personality making a light appearence, he's always been one to react that way to Misty, it's funny to see him basically go "that's a bit far fetched" considering the meta implications.
-With the conflict of the episode firmly established, the two display their lures, and Ash is using Cilan's, to Misty's annoyance. This is a cute way to follow up on her token of affection as Ash teases her and she "takes the bait". Once again, serious red meat for that ship. (and could be a fun lead in to Cilan's appearence in Episode 3)
-OS music for comfy KANTOOOOO vibes
-Some classic Misty/Ash banter, the two haven't changed at all.
-The Magicarp Sub!
-Meowth remarks that the "Original Brat Girl" is back along with "Brat boy".
-Interesting that Misty gets the first catch of Clauncher, perhaps Ash wasn't correct that Cilan's lure is more effective?
-Ash gets a new ribbing nickname "The battle freak", showing that Misty can still find bantz even when Ash is champion.
