I don't mean to sound obnoxious but isn't that literally the ONLY way a romance musical made by 90s kids about pokemon is going to turn out?
It's not like they're gonna tune in to the 1000 episodes that came out after they stopped watching to see if a new love interest showed up. Especially in america most people never did and never will make the distinction that Misty/Ash was a mostly western thing or whatever it is
