Quite honestly, it would be fine to shift the general thematic designs of a reason. Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn have Pokemon designs that have thematic similarities to one another, and feel like their region, yet also are capable of existing fine in their universe together.
And then you have shit like this, defend it.Tell me this looks like it would exist in the Pokemon world of old. Tell me if back in 2000 you would've believed this was a new Pokemon. Everything about it is round and soft, even the hair lacks any sort of detail, and is just clay blobs. And it stands alongside Pokemon like Arcanine and Mankey, with extremely detailed fur.
