>>45762001I'm a diehard Unovafag but after having almost a decade to tear the games apart I've come to appreciate that the antis have a point when they accuse Gen 5 (BW, in particular) of having a real problem with pacing character encounters.
Take Chargestone Cave, for example. There's a Galvantula web at the entrance and you exchange some words with Clay while he moves it for you. Alright, cool, time to explore a new area. You immediately see N when you enter, so naturally you walk over to check that out. Two steps into the cave you're jumped upon by the Shadow Triad who proceed to move you another two steps to have a conversation with N, which you were probably intending to do anyway since you fucking saw him. Maybe you enjoy talking to N, maybe you don't. When he's done spouting his nonsense at you, N warns you that Team Plasma will be waiting to ambush you deeper in the cave and fucks off. Alright, you think, that was enough exposition for now, time for some battles. Just when you've settled into the tense mood and decide to move on, you walk literally five steps before you're stopped by Bianca giving a tutorial on how the glowing stones works. And when you finally think that's the end of it, Professor Juniper shows up to throw even more words at you.
Now, these questionable decisions were probably made for a reason (you can see N before the ninjas jump you to lessen the shock of their appearance, Bianca has to explain how to move the stones for the dumb children) but couple the constant occurrence of this shit with how the English translation makes every sentence longer and more awkward to read than it was in Japanese and I can understand how people with a low tolerance for bullshit got annoyed.
