Also, the game went out of its way to make a single ancestor npc for more than one of the already established characters from the previous games, with Charm being the ancestor of both Agatha and Bertha, and Sanqua being the ancestor of both Karen and Clair. So it's not impossible for Volo to be the ancestor of both Cynthia and Barry. On the contrary, it's way more nonsensical for Cynthia to have two ancestors all of her own, especially since they don't seem to even know each other. Volo's resemblance to Barry might be more subtle than some others, and come at the very end of the game, but it's undoubtable.
