The RS arc's definition of love is actually self sacrifice, the ultimate form of beauty being selflessness. It's why the protagonist Ruby starts out being the most selfish person imaginable, why he spends most of the story obsessing over physical beauty and believing people like his dad and Sapphire were gross or even "ugly" (for being more masculine than him which he's insecure about).
Only for him to later realize everything they've sacrificed for his sake without asking for anything in return, all while Ruby often treated them like shit. In spirit they represented both selfless love and beauty, and by this new definition Ruby then realized he himself had become the ugliest soul of all for ditching them when they needed him most.Redemption only applies to Ruby anyway and not everyone even agrees he redeemed himself fully. Norman was never redeemed because he did nothing wrong to begin with, it's just that more information was revealed about him over time that gave new context to his past actions.
Courtney never redeemed herself at all and is both one of the most mishandled characters in the ending, but also in general as Ruby's shittiest foil character. Especially in hindsight she's just a shit version of Zinnia.
