>>50625694As far as core games go, it's definitely only Japan that children are still clamoring for Pokemon. Everywhere else it's extremely case-by-case and depends on if the household DOES get a Switch, but it's overall unlikely outside of mobile games and merch that a child will care for Pokemon.
The merch sells, the anime's still omnipresent, the mobile games make massive bank, but the core games really aren't that relevant to children outside of Japan anymore. It's incredibly easy for a kid to skip their "Nintendo phase" these days by getting hooked on Minecraft, Fortnite and Roblox right out the gate, substituting them until they're at that point where they ask their parents for a Playstation or Xbox.
Which is why American localization cares more about appealing to millennials and zoomers, who ARE largely old enough to be consuming product on their own, with Pokemon names like Lechonk and Smoliv and social media posts like this.
