All the other names focus on crying, tears, being on the verge of tears, etc.
It could still end up being a loch ness thing though. The Japanese names are usually the most punny, and the Japanese name for it is "Messon". It's a combination of "mesomeso" which is the sound of crying and chameleon. But there could be an extra layer there if they keep the "Meso" part of the name: it could become a mesosaur.
That's just a stretch though since none of the other names hint at that.
