To him, he wasn't destroying anything, merely correcting a mistake. The only time I think he may have enjoyed inflicting pain on others was the Lake Trio, for being the very embodiment of his suffering. The man is messed up and beyond redemption by his own accord but I still wouldn't call him evil.
