And even if you weren't mixing the two up, there's definitely questions of which side of the line pokemon fall on, even discounting the anime.
Mewtwo, for example, is most assuredly Sapient.
Also, human's are still animals themselves. Just sapient ones.
Granted is they are sapient then it means they at best willing slaves but that's not the topic of this debate.
