ended up generally being easier than I thought, though I noticed that even with marill being overlevelled opponents were starting to get better at tanking hits from it. had to use x items to set up on the E4 but I don't think anything will compare to how brutal the battle w/ morty was.
probably gonna grind BP to teach marill ice punch before beginning to explore kanto.
