You know IRL you dont just magically know the name of things, if you find an Absolite or Charizardite X in the game you know what it is because you're the player but if you cant see the name (like the NPCs) you'll just put it away as a pretty stone. That's why mega evolutions are not very known about, not everyone has the main character's magic-name-knowledge. Hell even if you know what it is you need a mega ring or keystone on top of that.
