The only interesting aspects of gen 1 is how odd it is and the bizarre mechanics that make it seemingly charming at a surface level glance. Gen 2 is just a grindfest, it's like WW1 made into Pokemon, every army is issued a powerful weapon (a tank) they have to protect at all costs as a win condition in Snorlax, every aspect of the meta revolves around Snorlax to some extent and it's groupies, you can make large and explosively plays at times, but things will typically remain a grindfest with both sides taking potshots on occasion while both fester in the trenches.
