>>48991662This just reminded me of a theory I had after the Kanto event: I think that they're grooming the base into potentially buying what might become a series of "games within a game," even beyond regional tours
The price itself matches the price of a standalone mobile game. So, it seems odd to sell an experience (which is basically a chance to fill a Dex if you have someone to trade with) that's barely 10% of a standalone game for the same price.
People have asked, "what is GO gonna do when it runs out of gens?"
This might be what we're looking at: New gens released as these experiences released right alongside the mainline RPGs. I know it doesn't make sense, but you have to consider it from a franchise that cashes in on both FOMO and nostalgia. They want in every angle they can get in this market. Pervasiveness means grooming. Pokemon didn't get to where it was by focusing on just one group.
Someone I knew said they'd never reveal a new Pokemon in GO. A few weeks later, we got Meltan.
