Not only does it make very little sense in general, but even if it worked, then that would mean that virtually everyone in the Pokemon world should have type-energy powers. The dumbfuck way they did this actively breaks the setting if you stop and think about it for more than twelve seconds.
The sad thing is that trainers getting powers from their Pokemon and using them to fight side-by-side could be kino if you took it as a Conquest or Ranger AU with trainers focusing on having Partner Pokemon rather than full teams. Instead, the idea is wasted on some random retard SI bumblefucking their way through a standard Pokemon world and needing unique protag bonuses because the MC can't stick out or go on a basic bitch journey otherwise.
