>>43226443My wish for the next generation’s gimmick is revolutionize the battle system. From the series’ inception to its current state, all in-game battles have been on a single dimension, with the only major difference is that the Pokémons now play animations when using a move instead of shuffling their sprites about on the screen.
Why not emphasize on the “battlefield”? Why not have the battles be like the anime, in which the Pokemon utilize the terrain and dimensions of the field as best as they can? Like, imagine it, the enemy Pokémon’s attack erected a tall boulder from the ground, but missed, thus landing it to your Pokémon’s front-left. You would command your Pokémon to move the square units needed to reach that boulder and jump ontop, and then unleash a ranged special attack with the height advantage.
Of course, this’ll need a grand overhaul of the system since they can’t just slap on new graphics, design a map, and call it a day, and not to mention the grand list of rebalances needed for this new system, but I think an all new battle system is just what the franchise needs if Game Freak wants to attract a larger number of new fans instead of pandering to old and aging consumers.
