Furthermore, in the case of Pokemon, this is a series both the developers and consumers like to PRETEND are made explicitly for young children. They pretend everything included in the games are wholesome in nature to fall in line with what is considered appropriate for children's entertainment. The consumers of said products are also constantly lying to themselves and their peers posturing that they enjoy the new Pokemon games for entirely non-sexual reasons. The factor both of these parties seem to forget is that Japanese children's media has been well known to incorporate copious sexual pandering elements as early as the 1950s ffs. But while other forms of Japanese entertainment media targeted primarily at children are more than willing to go "all out" with this type of "fanservice" Pokemon tries to remain within this "family friendly" bubble which no doubt appeals to the Western market primarily. Pokemon is constantly holding back with it fanservice elements, it feels stilted, unnatural even. It seems as though the devs desperately WANT to include more overt sexual pandering into their games but they are simply inhibited by the perception of the Western world.
