What kind of person do you want to take the back seat to? Someone super serious or jolly and carefree? Why are you traveling with this person? Stay in one region or keep moving on?
What Pokemon would you use? you're limited to 4, it can't be a super strong team. Think NFE Pokemon and Pokemon that all fit a theme. At most you can have two FE Pokemon but try to be fair about it nothing too flashy, remember you're taking the back seat and don't want to take away the spotlight from the protag.
