My idea for these guys is that they inhabit the darker waters of the ocean, with only their red/yellow lights illuminating, alternating colors. The evolved form hunts prey by orbiting over them, before deploying it's tentacles downwards and sucking them back into it's mouth, "abducting" them. The evolved form can also fly out of water using it's psychic abilities, while the pre-evolved form can't and are immobile on land.
