>>54821362Question for anons regarding Pokemania: what could conceivably happened to have prevented Pokemania? What sort of changes would be needed? Imagine a world where Pokemon existed but never took off like it did in 1998. How did that happen?
>>54821485I hadn't dropped the games but I had stopped watching the anime when Tracy replaced Brock in the Orange Islands. Do I count? DP was absolutely massively hyped, even if you didn't watch the show, and I actually prefer DP to Platinum. I tried Platinum and as soon as Looker appeared, dropped it. Annoying piece of shit. Anyway, DP were incredible at the time. The graphics were exactly what I wanted, especially battle sprites (the 3D effects of the windmill, for example, I always thought were trash though). I always hated 3D and never understood fags who can't appreciate 2D games; then again, I always liked Dragon Warrior/Quest and not many people do.
Pokemon designs weren't great, and I mildly dislike Magmortar, Electivire, Magnezone, etc but appreciated that they gave old Pokemon room to grow. The Hokkaido setting was cozy. The biggest issue for me, at least, was that NDS online was garbage that required a WEP router, I think, which no one sane would have. It was incredibly insecure and a neighbor could easily get your password and do nasty shit. So I never experienced online until the 3DS.
