This kind of formula can keep long terms fans when done with shorter games, but for a collectable-based rpg that only comes out every 3-4 years it's obvious it's meant to target each new generation of kids that get old enough to play games.
Some people can keep playing them regardless because they legitimately enjoy the gameplay style and don't care if it never changes. You obviously aren't one of those people. Your tastes have changed or you've otherwise burnt yourself out.
