My problem with Mega-Evolutions is that they kill any sense of progression that a pokemon could gain otherwise. It feels like a band-aid instead of an actual fix for some older pokemon. I feel like Gamefreak is slowly starting to lose it. It's not only an uninspired change, it also takes a ton of work. They had to implement a new system, they had to design new stats, they had to create a new look, and it all seems pointless when they could have just made more pokemon or included further evolutions or more evolutionary branches. We don't need Mega Mawile or Mega Pinsir, we need evolutions for them or more useful stats, abilities, and moves.
I'm enjoying using my Mega-Pokemon, but in the back of my mind I know it's a stupid fix. It only creates more work for Gamefreak and most of the designs are awful. I don't know why Gamefreak is so against going back and changing the stats on pokemon, but they're perfectly fine with slapping stripes, spikes, and lines on them, giving them and item-ite and buffing them up beyond recognition. I've been against mega-pokemon since they were first introduced and quite honestly I don't think I'll ever fully accept them.
