>>57559815Megas were created for balancing purposes without giving out new permanent evolutions. Gen 5 powercreep was insane and older pokemon were becoming more and more irrelevant, and megas were a way to counteract this, which is why only a single gen 5 pokemon got a mega evolution and the rest were much more frontloaded in terms of generations. (Diancie is banned anyway and it was for lore reasons.) They realized megas were a fucking mistake and too demanding to uphold, so they ditched them the same exact time they introduced Dexit, instead banning the busted powercreep mons that ruined previous metas and instead procuring their own metas that they have full control over. This is also why megas are returning in a Legends game, as they are single player adventures and won't feature a competitive battle scene that will star at Worlds. Megas only exist for the merchandise and hype fans have for them, that's it. Expect the new megas to be entirely popular mons to maximize their profits.
