Or "Some odd guy in a costume came along and beat me, he cheated though. But don't worry I am all healed up and ready to beat you! (this would happen as you are about to enter a pokecenter, he is leaving it)
I am not a huge dialog person but something along those lines.
Also when encountering the bad guys, they could mention him taking out some of their grunts.
And then when you actually face Pokeman after the E4,he congratulates you in helping and basically taking down the bad guys. And how heroic you are and it is an honor to face you in a Pokemon battle.
