Anyway if we had a system like that I think it would work best this way:
>optional>can choose to apply separately that system or not to x category of trainers: important trainers/random trainers/villains>if you white out while still having healthy pokemon you can either choose to stay there or be teleported to the last centerI would also give gradually more pokemon to random trainers, add the possibility to the player to use a scaled level system and a no-item mode to balance even further those features all together.
This would allow to actually enhance the overall difficulty while keeping the adventure feeling of pokemon.
That would be the ideal Pokemon game imo.
