In gen 1, I farmed about 6 Charizards before I got this Perfect IV Charizard that was "stuck" withe ember/dragon claw, its worst set at the time. Instead of being mad and deleting it, I kept it as a souvenir. Now it kicks ass in great and is one of my prized mons.
Keep trying and keep your head up. If the game stresses you out too much, take a break.
