In fact it is 100 percent fact he only cares about being the strongest trainer and beating Red. Doesn't love his pokemon as much. You can't argue with the summoning quotes for both his sync pairs. There is nothing you can do about it besides create a tsudere headcanon making blue seem like a pussy when it isn't the case. So keep agreeing to your lie that isn't canon and I will know that both people loving pokemon equally are a better team.
