Beginning Journeys. It's interesting to think that Ash sleeping in for one of Oak's Summer Camps indirectly led to missing out on meeting Goh and Chloe one year, and then meeting Serena on an ostensibly later year. I wonder if Goh and younger-Ash would've gotten along, and I wonder if Serena would've ever started a journey and gotten out of Rhyhorn racing if Ash hadn't slept in. Sad either way to think of. I can imagine people who were really excited about the prospect of Serena's return though felt gypped at how the episode went.
Of course, Pikachu's backstory was the more interesting one this time around. I went back briefly to the Kangaskhan episode of OS to see if Pikachu acted any differently than normal. He didn't, and I didn't expect him to, but it would've been a super cool easter egg if it happened. I wonder if something happened in between him evolving/leaving his "mother" and getting to Oak's lab that made him such a curmudgeon though, or if he just saw Ash and hated him on sight.
