Overall, BDSP is a solid old style Pokémon game.
I recently started my first Sword & Shield run through. Honestly, I’m impressed. The games, as they currently stand with DLC are solid. To be honest, I’m more engaged with Shield than my run through of Brilliant Diamond. Everything looks good, there are plenty of side paths for item scavenging. The levels are balanced if you avoid grinding (i.e. only battle trainers and to catch new Pokémon). I haven’t noticed any major issues, so I’m not sure what all the whining was about aside from the loss of the national dex.
