Jap kids still don't care about Pokemon despite all of GF and the anime's efforts to appeal to them (Sun and Moon had the lowest ratings in the franchise and there was next to no hype for Ash finally winning the league) primarily because kids over there can't play online due to the fact its filled with experienced neckbeards who have been playing the game since before they were born and for a while YW offset that by being easy to learn and not being clogged up by adults in their 30s like Pokemon has been.
