My gym would be themed around pairings
To go with the theme, every trainer would have a six pokemon team divided into three two pokemon blocks
These blocks would essentially function as a single pokemon
On each turn, the block of either trainer can either attack in unison, attack and use a support move (the attack would take priority over the supporting move of the block), or both could use supporting moves (for mechanical purposes, the speed stat of both pokemon would be combined, every other stat is separate as per norm)
If one pokemon in a block is knocked out, the other one also must be switched out to allow a new block to be sent in (the whole point of the block system is for two pokemon to support each-other and function as a single unit)
The pairings would need to be established before a battle, but any combination of two male, female, or genderless pokemon would be acceptable
The gym itself would be a chapel and the badge (Union Badge) would be two combined halves of a heart over a flower wreath
The leader’s team would be Serperior & Milotic, Lurantis & Scizor, and Garchomp & Flygon
