>>54044643>Define "gimmick"."A gimmick is a novel device or idea designed primarily to attract attention or increase appeal, often with little intrinsic value. When applied to retail marketing, it is a unique or quirky feature designed to make a product or service "stand out" from its competitors. Product gimmicks are sometimes considered mere novelties, and tangential to the product's functioning. Gimmicks are occasionally viewed negatively, but some seemingly trivial gimmicks of the past have evolved into useful, permanent features. The term is also sometimes used to describe unusual features or playstyles in video games, usually if they are unnecessary or obnoxious." -Wikipedia
>Obviously, Terastal, Dynamax, and Z-Moves are gimmicks.Yes. Phenomenons, as they officially call it now apparently, are gimmicks.
>What about _____?If the above definition amounts to anything, all of them? I think that's too broad. When I think gimmicks in Pokémon, I think features that're hyped, underutilized in the game itself (or in the case of Phenonemons, said to only occur in that game's region and nowhere else), then disappears or gets reskinned without rhyme or reason.
Pic related. I'd say about half the features on that image could constitute as a gimmick, a quarter being debatable, and the remaining quarter not being gimmicks at all.
