The first season stands out with its weirdness like the Ghost maiden (although there were a bunch of horror/ghost episodes later), Sabrina's dolls, the Pokemon Tower, Bill and the Dragonite, ancient giant Pokemon, Tentacruel episode and the beauty contest, Giovanni using Mewtwo, Ash being forcer to be dressed up as Mr. Mime, the S.S. double episode and a bunch of others.

Admittedly, some of the other gym leaders got tweaked in design like Surge becoming a giant oaf and Brock going from literally no character to a Cassanova-wannabe, but Blaine's redesign always struck me as odd. At least they kept the quiz gimmick.
