In Magic if you want to be 100% sure you look at the red dot on the back inside the green circle with a 60x loupe.
You can also look at the rosette pattern the black ink layer etc.
Knowing this stuff is required because the fakes are good. If they can do it for Magic I imagine they can also do it for Pokemon.
