Honestly, my favorite thing about it is that Kojima clearly had full creative control over it so he could just do whatever he wanted with the gameplay and no one could stop him. Games that represent a single director's creative vision are invariably the most interesting, but they also lack mass appeal and so a lot of companies won't fund them. Kojima's name is big enough that he can get a AAA budget for a literal walking simulator about a Monster-chugging delivery man who has to walk up a snowy mountain at 2 MPH with a baby strapped to his chest and an antimatter bomb tied to his back and ready to go off if he loses his balance.
