I predict that Sword and Shield will be in much the same vein as Sun and Moon; Linear, cutscene-heavy, the average trainer having a max of 2 pokemon, no significant postgame.
I will pick the game up, have a fun little romp with the new pokemon and new gimmick/evolution mechanic/new forms, beat the game in 15 hours, and be on my way.
