I like your evolution method a lot, especially because it could logically follow that the fainted Eevee you bring in was so hurt in battle that they had to do reconstructive surgery to save its life, resulting in its evolution into a more durable form as a full-body prosthetic. It's a bit morbid, but it does have a happy ending for the poor Eevee.
