Man, this is so much to wrap my head around.
So the fact that the original VA didn't reprise her role as Latias might be a hint it's a different Latias. However, she might be too old to replicate the sound. Then again, they should be able to use stock sounds from the 5th movie. Buuuut, those might be proprietary to a distributor and they can't. There's also precedent that they've done it before in such a situation? Too much!
Maybe they just figured Latias' voice in the 5th movie was a bit too jarring and wanted to dial it back and the original VA couldn't accomplish it, and of course they couldn't use the old sounds cuz they wanted something new.
I remember too someone suggesting this Latias, if new, seems younger. Maybe she's actually just older. More mature . Doesn't need to vocalize or dart around like a juvenile like she used to. Maybe they wanted a new voice to reflect that. A lot can change when you've had to grow up quickly and you lose people you love. I still think she's processing her feelings and realizing she likes him again... or there's always the amnesia theory and she's falling in love all over again, wondering why it feels so familiar.
Gods, I don't know. I'm not giving up on team original Latias just yet. I feel like if she does confront him again, there's a 90% chance they'll acknowledge their past somehow. I can't see them bringing Latias back now that she's seemingly interested in him and leaving it completely ambivalent. I would hate the idea that some new Latias just opportunistically slides into the original Latias' role. We KNOW that Ash acted differently to her presence than he should have if she was brand new. He's going to want answers or it'll look weird!
They've got the Pokeshippers panicking because Misty is showing no interest in Ash, and they have us playing "Whose frickin' Latias is this?" Pokemon really likes playing with the shippers!
