>>41313801I think a lot of people don't realize how "correctness" is not always necessarily better when it comes to animation, or pretty much any other artistic medium. The original Pokemon anime took a ton of liberties with the source material, and while people make fun of it for that to this day, it also spawned some of the most enduring and iconic aspects of the franchise. In terms of just the animation, I felt like the characters were a lot more expressive and vibrant than later seasons because of the animators' willingness to have fun, like you said.
