They make 2-3 good games, they ride that high, eventually start showing how incompetent they are when given full reign (because of past success) and people vehemently defend every single decision because of their past history, allowing them to keep putting in even worse decisions and the already bad changes become worse.
By the time people start realizing how bad things have gotten, it is far too late, and the damage is almost irreparable.
NOW is when they start bitching, when the changes and choices these people defended long time ago are so ingrained/went unscathed for so long that cannot be changed without a big redo.
