>>35756982i imagine this is from a point before pokemon blew up into a global media franchise it is today. if i recall satoshi tajiri commented that g/s/c would have been done with g/s had it not went on to make a gorillion dollars. this makes sense when you consider how the map is structured (each city is meant to be from a different region), you have professor oak, lots of pokemon to flesh out the gen 1 dex (combined, there are about 30-35 pre-evos and evos for gen 1 pokemon) however there are a few telltale signs that the anime directly influenced the game here: snubull and togepi are at the tail end of the dex suggesting they are the most recent additions, as i believe they were the first two gen 2 pokemon revealed. lugia does not exist yet as he was created specifically for the 2nd movie.) i imagine once pokemon became extremely profitable they decided to scrap the game and make a new one from the ground up to create a sort of formula for future games
