The mechanics are pretty fun, the characters are charming and develop far beyond the cliches you expect them to embody, grinding is made very easy... It's overall very polished, from the graphics over the sound to the gameplay.
There's also a lot of optional missions which sometimes reference obscure Digimon lore that usually gets neglected, and which at other times are just funny.
The online multiplayer can also be nice, although it falls short of Pokémon's, naturally. The meta consists of about a dozen stupidly broken strats, but because there's quite a lot of these stupidly broken strats, there's still some variety.
