I got into the fandom right around the beginning of the Pokemon fad.
Watched the anime religiously, but could never get into the card game properly because my family was poor as dirt.
Eventually, Christmas rolls around and my Mom decides I've been so good that I deserve a whole box of Pokemon cards!
My mother didn't understand the differences between the Trading Card Game everyone was going crazy for at the time and the Topps Trading Cards though so, my mother spent her hard earned money on a box of the Topps cards.
Of course, I pretended they were TCG cards and acted eternally grateful, but these damn cards were the worst.
I always wondered if anybody else's parents got tricked though.
