As it's happening at the moment, TDT and VoD are running nearly apace with each other, give or take some time. (example: in TDT27 Allan's parent mention shenanigans going on in Unova that haven't actually happened yet in VoD)
The important thing I try to keep in mind is that the connecting tissue needs to be there for late-readers to be able to pick up on easily even if they weren't reading both stories as they were updating.
Swapping PoVs is fun for me, as I get to follow multiple different character motivations and driving goals, even if they're on the same side.
