Why did they redesign the trainer who abandoned Charmander unless they just thought the new design looked cooler. They could have used Paul for this role as their mindsets seemed pretty similar, and there were already a lot of Sinnoh references.
And what was the point of Team Rocket if they never even did anything except blast off?
