I remember being in a Skype call when a friend of mine was ranting about Meowth joining Ash and co. I don't think he actually watched the show, but he was mad about it anyway, seething at the fact that they had done something as sacrilegious as breaking up Team Rocket and having Meowth join Ash (who he hated, because he wasn't an edgelord like early-DP Paul). I say I don't think he watched it because it seems pretty obvious given the TR framing of the episode that it's not going to be permanent. It still was kind of shocking to see Iris almost catch him. That would've been a trip.
