Nintendo has no idea how to make PvP fun, especially since the gimmick era of Mega/Tera/Z Move/Dyna stuff allowing snowballs to happen for free.
A Pokemon game about collecting them all could be ufn, but when was the last time pokemon was fun to collect? Even in Gen 6, the largest regional dex, the amount of uptrading needed to complete the pokedex makes "catching them all" just menuing for 5 hours and then letting them rot in the box.
All that's left is making a legitimate RPG. Cut the Dex so much that each new game's dex is almost entirely unique, and add more overworld elements than just mashing text and walking around.
