He may occasionally learn something or have a moment of uncharacteristic intelligence, but it’s wasted on jumping the shark with his fucking Pikachu that will never evolve, for the same reason that it took a decade for Ash to age even a year. Which is that the Pokemon anime would rather just dump the same shit out for over 20 seasons for the sake of not ruining their beloved mascots and brand.
I feel originally Ash was representative of the average 10 year old who played the games and was experiencing the world of Pokemon for the first time, and as a kid I related to him because of that. I think getting older and relating to him less, along with him never growing much as a character lead me to actively dislike him, at least in later seasons. I think I’d still like him if he had won a league a long time ago.
