Its good from the view point that its a game meant for kids to broaden the IP for a newer generation, but besides its visuals and the new Pokemon encounter mechanic is objectively a downgrade from previous titles.
Not only that, it is the third remake of the Kanto region, the fifth one if you count Gold and its remake as well. It offers very little to the series, but does provide interesting glimpses into future titles. An example being the wandering Pokemon, which would make Pokemon Following a very easy feature to implement for all future titles. Especially when you consider for the push toward Ride Pokemon over traditional transport like Surf Slaves or Bikes.
