>Game Freak intentes Gen 2 Pokémon to be hatedI don't know if they intended for them to be hated, but in any case, they were riding on the success of Gen 1 and most likely preferred to play it safe by having Johto be 90% Kanto. And, well, it worked, because it was a commercial success yet again.
Could you imagine, though? If Gen 2 mons had been way more prevalent in GSC, and it actually put off people? I wonder what the future of the series would have been like after that. RSE would probably have been chock full of Kantomons to try and make up for that blunder, but other than that, I imagine it wouldn't have been much different.
